After a great success in Lahore, Uber has finally announced to expand its operations in Pakistan. Today Uber is arriving in Karachi. Uber has announced this launch on their official blog.
We are thrilled to announce uberGO is now available in Karachi, connecting Pakistan’s largest city to safe, reliable, and affordable rides.
According to a report published in Dawn, the service will initially serve in the following areas: Clifton, Saddar Town, Jamshed Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town, Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, Gulberg Town, Malir Town and Korangi. For the first weekend you can enjoy Uber for FREE (From 12pm Thursday, August 25th until 11:59pm Sunday, August 28th ). You can also use fs1033ue while signing-up or at anytime in the app as your promo code for the first free ride.
Head of Uber Pakistan Expansion Zohair Yousafi said that:
The response has been incredible in Lahore, so we are extremely excited to be launching in Karachi. Anyone can now enjoy an affordable, reliable and safe ride at the push of a button thanks to uberGO. The competitive price means using uberGO is the perfect option for anyone wanting to get around the city
Uber says it has built in strong layers of security into its service, including route and location-sharing with family and friends through the app, and stringent background checks for drivers through verification of documents and coordination with law enforcement agencies.
“The technology alone is adding in a level of security that may not have been available for any public transportation at all before,” said Shaden Abdellatif, an Uber spokeswoman.
Karachi is the second Pakistani city where Uber operates. It started earlier this year in Lahore, the country’s second-biggest city. Uber was used by 65,000 riders and approximately 1,000 drivers in Lahore between July 15 and July 31 this year, according to data provided by the company.
Uber’s main competitor in Pakistan is United Arab Emirates-based Careem, which also offers ride-hailing through a smartphone app and operates in Lahore, Karachi, and Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad.
Uber said it plans to continue expansion in Pakistan. “We eventually want to be in most cities,” said spokeswoman Ms. Abdellatif.
